The Badger Storytelling Chair is a hand-carved solid oak throne with a bold, characterful badger carved across the backrest — a chair that brings the spirit of the woodland sett into any classroom, reading garden or storytelling corner.
Badgers are one of those animals that children have strong feelings about — there is always a child who has seen one, or read about one, or who simply loves them with a conviction that is hard to argue with. This chair gives that child a throne. And it gives every teacher a focal point that makes the room feel like a story is already in progress before anyone has opened a book.
Carved by hand in our Mid Wales workshop from solid British oak, built to the same generous proportions as the rest of our wildlife range.

Finish
Your chair is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid oak slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey — completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, and with no maintenance needed. If you'd prefer to bring out the grain and warm, honeyed tones of the oak, choose the varnished option (+£50) and we'll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish.
More about the two finishes
Outdoor furniture takes a real beating from sun and weather. Left natural, an unvarnished chair simply silvers over time and asks nothing of you. A varnished chair keeps its rich sheen for a couple of years; after that the varnish may begin to flake or patch, at which point you can simply re-coat it to keep it looking fresh, or let it weather back to that natural silvery-grey. Either way, your oak is fine.
Your Version
We can carve your school's name, badge or a dedication into the seat or back. The badger can be surrounded by woodland details — foxgloves, bluebells, oak leaves — or we can add other animals alongside it. We have made versions where the badger holds a particular object meaningful to the school. Tell us your idea and we will sketch it before any carving begins.
Typical lead time is 4–5 weeks. Prices include VAT. Schools can order by purchase order and pay on invoice. If your school or trust needs to register us as a supplier first, we will provide everything needed: VAT number, bank details, address and anything else required.
