A memorial bench made for a boy called Billy who loved Toy Story, Lego and Boston United — his favourite characters, his club’s crest and his own handwriting all carved and painted into the oak.
Billy’s family worked with us on every detail. Woody from Toy Story stands on one side; a Minecraft Creeper on the other; Boston United’s football crest fills the centre panel; and the legs are painted as Lego blocks in the bright colours Billy always reached for. Most extraordinary of all: Billy’s own handwriting is reproduced in the timber, preserved exactly as he made it, alongside his signature heart. This bench doesn’t just carry his name — it carries his hand.
Built from solid oak with painted details in weatherproof artist pigments, this bench will stand in its spot — school grounds, a park, a family garden — with the same energy Billy brought to the world. Available as a two seater (£1,960) or three seater (£2,110). You can read the full story of this commission on our workshop blog. Prices include VAT.

Your Version
Tell us who the bench is for — their name, the things they loved, any handwriting or drawings you’d like preserved in the timber. We work closely with families and schools through the design process. Typical lead time is 4–5 weeks; complex commissions with extensive artwork may take a little longer. Get in touch to start the conversation.
Finish
This piece is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid oak slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey — completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, and with no maintenance needed. If you’d prefer to bring out the grain and warm, honeyed tones, choose the varnished option (+£50) and we’ll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish.
More about the two finishes
Outdoor furniture takes a real beating from sun and weather. Left natural, an unvarnished piece simply silvers over time and asks nothing of you. A varnished piece keeps its rich sheen for a couple of years; after that the varnish may begin to flake or patch, at which point you can simply re-coat it, or let it weather back to that natural silvery-grey. Either way, your oak is fine.
