For someone who lived with a throttle under their hand and the countryside at their back, this memorial bench captures the spirit of a life lived fully and freely. The backrest is hand-carved with a motorbike rider moving through an open landscape — not a photograph, but a carving that feels permanent, elemental, and true.
The bench shown here was made for Oliver Weston — eighteen years old, an off-road rider, someone who, in the words of his family, "lived life to the full." His friends Hannah and Ruby, who died alongside him, are remembered in the carving too. The bench now stands in a local nature reserve, placed there by his parents after they worked through the council permissions to secure it a permanent home. That kind of care — the months of planning, the letters, the waiting — speaks to what a bench like this means. It's not a temporary tribute. It's a fixed point in the landscape, somewhere to go back to.
We'll work with you to design something that fits your person. The motorbike and countryside theme shown here is just one possibility — the make, the landscape, the dedication text, the names of anyone you'd like remembered alongside the main tribute are all yours to shape. Prices include VAT. Schools and community groups can order on invoice.

Your Version
Every bench starts with a conversation. We'll ask about the person, what they rode, where they rode it, what words you'd like carved — and then our carver in Mid Wales will sketch a design until it feels right. Lead time is typically 4–5 weeks. If you have a specific date in mind — an anniversary, a dedication ceremony, a season — let us know and we'll do what we can to meet it. Get in touch to start the conversation.
Finish
This piece is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid oak slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey — completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, and with no maintenance needed. If you’d prefer to bring out the grain and warm, honeyed tones, choose the varnished option (+£50) and we’ll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish.
More about the two finishes
Outdoor furniture takes a real beating from sun and weather. Left natural, an unvarnished piece simply silvers over time and asks nothing of you. A varnished piece keeps its rich sheen for a couple of years; after that the varnish may begin to flake or patch, at which point you can simply re-coat it, or let it weather back to that natural silvery-grey. Either way, your oak is fine.
