Hand-built in our Mid Wales workshop, this live-edge chest of drawers is crafted from beautifully figured spalted beech — a striking, one-of-a-kind storage piece for the bedroom, hallway or living room.
Spalted beech is timber that has begun its natural breakdown, and that early process draws fine dark spalting lines and soft grey, amber and cream tones right through the wood. We choose and dry our boards carefully, then build around the wood's own character — the wavy, sculpted drawer fronts follow the natural live edge of each plank rather than fighting it, and the corners are framed with full live-edge log posts that still carry their bark line and gentle curves.
The result is a chest with real presence: four generous drawers that each run on smooth, easy-glide runners, finished with simple hand-shaped wooden handles. Because every board is unique, no two chests we make are ever the same — the piece in your home will be entirely its own.
We finish every chest with three coats of Epifanes matt varnish, a high-quality protective finish that brings out the depth of the grain while keeping a natural, untouched look. It is a piece built to be used every day and handed down.
