There's a particular kind of hush that falls over a classroom when the storyteller sits down and the book opens. We wanted to build the chair that earns that hush — and this woodland storytelling throne is it.
Carved from solid oak, it stands tall enough to feel special and sturdy enough to be sat in every single day. The two uprights rise like young trees, one with a fox watching from the branches, the other with a barn owl roosting quietly above. Climb down to the arms and you'll find a badger tucked among the ferns on one side and a hedgehog curled up beside the toadstools on the other. Up the back panel, oak and acorn vines wind around a carved heart and a rounded plaque — here reading "Forever a part of our story" — which we personalise with whatever words a school would like.
That cast of British woodland animals isn't just decoration. Teachers tell us a storytelling chair becomes a character in its own right — children name the fox, ask after the owl, and gather round because the chair itself is part of the magic. It's a brilliant anchor for early years and primary reading corners, outdoor classrooms and forest school sessions, giving language and imagination a place to land.
We hand-carve and pyrograph every throne ourselves in our workshop on the edge of Eryri, using sustainably sourced oak finished to live happily indoors or out. Because each one is made to order, we can change the animals, the wording and the scale to suit your setting — whether it's a reading nook, a library or a special school anniversary.
