Firestarter Forever: The Flinty Bench

prodigy bench

This has been one of our most explosive – and most secretive – jobs to date!

The Prodigy’s band manager, John Fairs, contacted us at the end of last year to commission a bench in memory of Keith Flint, the band’s incendiary front man, who died on 4th March 2019.

The vision for the bench was to create something striking, unique, and evocative of Keith and his unforgettable, electric character.

We co-created the design with John and Prodigy founder, Liam Howlett, and continued to refine it until the band and family members were happy to sign off. We were sworn to secrecy until the band launched the news on their social media platforms earlier today.

The central feature of the bench is the Flinty Fins  - a bold nod to Keith’s unmistakable devil-horn silhouette. It was essential that the entire piece was scorched jet black. Fire was not just inspiration – it was intrinsic to the creative process. Firestarter blaring through the workshop as we burned and blackened the oak.

Whilst we had a lot of fun making this iconic bench, it has also been a very emotional process, as is often the case when we make memorial pieces. In this instance, we are remembering someone who reshaped a generation of music.

The bench has been installed at St Mary’s Church in Bocking, Essex, where Keith was laid to rest seven years ago today.

It has been a privilege to be involved in this project and we’re excited to now be able to share these photos of the bench in its new home.

If you have a story to carve, get in touch.
