The Angel Story Chair is a hand-carved oak storytelling throne with dramatic angel wings forming the full backrest — a magical seat that gives every storyteller their own wings, and transforms any classroom, library or garden into a place where stories come to life.
Carved and painted by hand in our Mid Wales workshop, the wings span the full height of the backrest with each feather individually shaped and detailed. The solid oak seat and arms are built to last outdoors year-round, with the weight and presence that makes every child want to sit in it — and every adult feel like a storyteller the moment they do.
It is one of our most consistently popular chairs, and we can see why.
"We received the chair and would just like to say how beautiful it is. We were all so pleased when it arrived and we are going to find a special place where everyone can see and use it. Thank you very much."
— Mandy Corns, Abercynon Primary School

Your Version
Every Angel Chair is made to order and fully bespoke. We can carve your school's name into the seat, add a phrase or dedication across the back, change the wing colours to match your school palette, or take the design somewhere entirely different if the story calls for it. This is the Free Range way — the more personal the brief, the more excited we get in the workshop.
Typical lead time is 4–5 weeks, though we can work around tight deadlines — just get in touch and we will do our best. Prices include VAT. Schools can order by purchase order and pay on invoice — once your order is placed, the chair is confirmed and booked in. If your school or trust needs to register us as a supplier first, we will provide all the details your accounts payable team needs: VAT number, bank details, address and anything else required.

Finish
This piece is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid timber slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey — completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, and with no maintenance needed. If you’d prefer to bring out the grain and warm, honeyed tones, choose the varnished option (+£50) and we’ll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish.
More about the two finishes
Outdoor furniture takes a real beating from sun and weather. Left natural, an unvarnished piece simply silvers over time and asks nothing of you. A varnished piece keeps its rich sheen for a couple of years; after that the varnish may begin to flake or patch, at which point you can simply re-coat it, or let it weather back to that natural silvery-grey. Either way, your timber is fine.
