available
A disabled access composting toilet that actually meets the brief — built to statutory dimensions, installed by us, and ready to use from day one. This is one of the most frequently requested buildings we make at Free Range Designs, because demand for fully accessible off-grid sanitation is growing: at churches, nature reserves, allotment sites, visitor centres, community gardens, and rural venues where mains drainage simply isn't available.
Over 25 years of building composting toilets in Wales, we've learned what makes a disabled access toilet work in practice, not just on a drawing. Wheelchair-accessible ramp, full grab rails, generous internal space, and the same odour-free urine separation system used in all our buildings. Delivered and installed by our team — when we leave your site, your toilet is ready to use.
Grant Funding
Many of our disabled access composting toilet customers have successfully applied for grant funding to cover the cost. Relevant funding sources include the National Lottery Community Fund, Groundwork UK grants, Rural England Prosperity Fund, Historic England (for church and heritage sites), and various local authority accessibility grants. We're happy to provide supporting documentation for grant applications — get in touch to discuss.
Key Features
- Wheelchair accessible design — built to statutory dimensions with a wide doorway, wheelchair-friendly ramp, and spacious interior to accommodate a wheelchair user and carer.
- Grab rails throughout — installed and positioned for practical use, not just to meet a minimum requirement.
- Genuinely odour-free — urine separator keeps liquid and solid waste apart, eliminating smell and producing a usable liquid fertiliser.
- No water or electricity needed — a fully off-grid accessible toilet. No mains connection, no drainage infrastructure required.
- Delivered and installed — this is not a flat-pack. Our team brings it to your site and installs it. You get a working toilet, not a set of instructions.
- Built to last — quality timber, treated base materials, and weatherproof construction for long-term outdoor use.

Free Range Designs
St Paul's Woodland Garden, London
We needed a compostable loo that was fully accessible. Our garden project is in a churchyard amongst old protected trees so the company we went with needed to be sensitive to this. We also wanted to work with a company who produced their own work from their own designs here in the UK and had strong green credentials. Paul and Suzanne from FRD were excellent from the start. They listened to our requirements, gave us a swift and detailed quote that played out exactly in the final cost. They are flexible, creative thinkers and are always up for working round any problems that might arise. Our loo is a major talking point and fits really well with our values around sustainability and light touch intervention in the garden. Particularly helpful right now during the pandemic as our volunteers and service users return to the project as they can use the bathroom without having to go into the main church building.
