A hand-built bed frame combining Welsh coastal driftwood with a spalted beech headboard — the wave of the name visible in the flow of the spalted grain, which moves through the wood like something drawn by water rather than a hand.
The posts are driftwood, collected from Welsh beaches and selected for their character and strength — each one shaped by the sea into a form that no workshop could produce. The headboard is spalted beech: beech that has been through a natural fungal process that leaves dramatic dark lines and soft colour shifts across the grain. The runners connecting headboard to footboard are ash, oak, and sycamore — three hardwoods chosen for their density and complementary tones. The whole bed is bespoke by design, and previous customers have requested carvings as specific as G8 summit symbols, coffee beans, and eels. The carving tradition here is long and genuinely open — if you can describe it, we can generally make it.
The frame is built using solid hand-built joinery throughout. The driftwood and beech are finished with a natural oil that nourishes the wood and lets the spalting and grain read clearly.
