A four-poster bed built from sea-smoothed Welsh driftwood and a solid spalted beech headboard — four tall posts shaped by the sea, a headboard shaped by nature’s own marking system.
The posts for this bed are driftwood: handpicked from the coastline near our workshop, each one selected for its straightness, its weight-bearing capacity, and the particular quality of its surface — the smoothing that only comes from years in water, the organic twists and grain lines that no lathe could produce. The headboard is a solid slab of spalted beech. Spalting is a natural fungal process that runs dramatic black lines through the grain of beech — no two pieces are marked the same way. The combination of weathered driftwood posts and a deeply-patterned beech headboard creates a bed that has very obvious natural ancestry.
The frame is built using solid hand-built joinery throughout, with bed bolts at the rail connections for strength and easy disassembly.

Dear Free Range team,
I hope this email finds you well.
I must apologise that it has been a year since I received my bed, and I haven't sent you photos! I was waiting until I finished decorating it, and by that time, it slipped my mind to send photos and I have just remembered now.
Thank you for crafting such an incredible bed, it makes me happy every morning that I wake up in it - even when it is far too early to be awake! I do hope you enjoy the attached, let me know what you think.
Best wishes,
Maudie

Hello Suzanne,
The whole move took us so much more time than we expected. And putting the bed into place took more time and help but finally…. It is done! And we sleep heavenly 😊. We are so very happy with the end result! The bed is even more beautiful than we thought it would be. I herewith send you the promised picture.
Thank you so much for all your help, clarity, guidance, etc.
Best wishes, Brenda.
