The oak for this bed is chosen for what the sawmill calls “character grade” — the pieces that have more going on in the grain than a straight-cut board: darker heartwood tones, subtle figuring, the odd knot. The legs are turned or shaped to complement the natural darkness of the heartwood; they give the bed a grounded, rooted quality without being heavy. The joinery is solid hand-built throughout, with headboard and footboard slotting into the side rails for easy assembly, disassembly, and reassembly as needed. The oak is finished with a natural oil that deepens the grain and gives the surface a quiet warmth.
This is a bed without anything added that doesn’t need to be there. The oak does the work.
