There are some commissions that stay with you long after the last tool is put down. This is one of them.
This memorial garden bench was made for a family who wanted a very special place to remember Emily and Amy — two people clearly loved deeply and dearly. The brief was full of meaning: a rainbow, clasped hands, friendship bracelets, butterflies, hearts, sunflowers, a hare, a highland cow. Every single detail was chosen with care. Our job was simply to bring it all to life in solid oak.
The centrepiece of the backrest is a sweeping hand-painted rainbow arching over two hands clasped together — one wearing a yellow bracelet, one a blue one. Carved clouds frame the scene on either side, with bold red hearts sitting warmly at the edges. At the top of each arm post, a butterfly perches: one golden and amber, one teal and soft.
The front legs carry the story further. On the left, a hare sits alert among sunflowers with a little bee close by. On the right, a cheerful highland cow peers out from her own cluster of flowers, wearing a tiny crown. Every carving was done entirely by hand, and each colour was painted on with the same quiet care you'd put into writing a letter to someone you love.
The whole bench is made from solid oak — strong enough to last decades outdoors, and beautiful enough to stop anyone passing in their tracks. It's the kind of piece that earns its place wherever it sits.
If you've lost someone special and want a place to sit and feel close to them, a bespoke memorial bench might be exactly the right thing. We work closely with families to create something completely personal — the animals, symbols, words and colours that meant something to the person you're remembering. Every commission begins with a conversation, and every piece tells its own story.
