The posts are solid heartwood oak — selected one by one from the timber near our workshop in Mid Wales for their natural twists, knots and branching form. The canopy overhead isn't added decoration; it grows from the posts themselves. No two beds are ever the same.
Once shaped and finished, the oak takes on a quality that's hard to describe until you see it. Smooth as polished driftwood, with a pale bone-like lustre that comes entirely from the wood itself. It looks almost sea-worn, but it's solid oak throughout — just brought out by hand.
This has been one of our most consistently requested pieces for over twenty years. It's the kind of thing that changes a room completely.
How it's built

Materials: Solid heartwood oak from forests close to our workshop. Each piece is chosen for its individual character — the organic grain, natural knots and branching form that make every bed unique.

Joinery: Headboard and footboard slot into the side rails with solid hand-built joinery, held fast with long coach bolts that can be tightened over time. Strong, simple, and built to last.

Assembly: Straightforward to put together. The joints are designed so the bed can be taken apart and reassembled if needed.

Sizing: Made to fit any standard UK mattress size, or custom dimensions. Posts are generally around 195cm tall but can be cut lower to fit under beams, or made taller to make the most of a vaulted ceiling.

Bespoke options: Over the years we've made versions with under-bed storage drawers, lower posts for yurts, straighter posts for a cleaner look, and integrated side tables. If you have something specific in mind, get in touch.
