Most beds are built from the straight parts of trees: the bits that are easy to mill, easy to stack, easy to sell. This one goes in the opposite direction. The headboard and footboard are built from forked branches — the joints and bifurcations where a tree divides, where the grain fans and tightens and becomes something entirely different from a planed board. These pieces are selected one by one for their form and strength, then worked by hand until they sit together into something coherent. The posts are solid oak, chosen for their straightness and the quality of their grain. The four-poster structure means the bed has height and presence — this is a piece that defines the room rather than fitting into it.
The frame is built using solid hand-built joinery throughout, with coach bolt fittings at the rail connections for secure assembly and disassembly.
