Giant Book Chair for Schools

The Giant Book Chair is a fantasy storytelling throne shaped like a stack of giant, colourful open books — designed to seat four or five children at once and built to make any playground, library or reading garden feel genuinely magical.

The chair pictured was commissioned by Frogwell Primary School, with bespoke images and text engraved especially for them — every book spine a different colour, every title chosen by the school. That's the beauty of this piece: the books are yours to write. Whether it's favourite stories, school values, children's names or the titles of books your class has loved, the book spines become a permanent, carved record of your reading life together.

Available in Douglas Fir or Oak for the main body, with a mixture of colourful reclaimed timbers making up the book spines.

Your Version

The Giant Book Chair is a fully bespoke commission. You decide the book titles, the colours, the engravings, and any additional text or imagery. We'll work with you to design something that reflects your school's reading culture and becomes a fixture of your outdoor space for years to come.

Typical lead time is 4–5 weeks, though we're flexible if you have a deadline. Prices include VAT. Schools can order by purchase order — we'll supply our VAT number, bank details and address for supplier registration.

Finish

This piece is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid timber slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey — completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, and with no maintenance needed. If you’d prefer to bring out the grain and warm, honeyed tones, choose the varnished option (+£50) and we’ll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish.
