Most composting toilets are built to be functional. This one is built to be looked at. The Gypsy Caravan Composting Toilet is our most distinctive building — a curved, characterful design that people actually stop and admire, whether it's nestled in a woodland, sitting beside a glamping pod, or anchoring a campsite. It's a composting toilet that earns its place in the landscape rather than apologising for being there.
Behind the looks is the same 25 years of craftsmanship that goes into every Free Range Designs toilet. Handmade in Wales from quality timber, properly built and properly finished. Not a kit assembled from thin panels, but a real wooden structure designed for years of daily use in all weathers. If you're comparing this to a cheaper plastic cabin, you're comparing the wrong things — this is a building, not a box.
Key Features
- Genuinely beautiful design — the curved roofline and gypsy caravan styling makes this a feature of your site, not an afterthought. Customers, guests and visitors notice it.
- Spacious interior — taller and more generous inside than our Basic and Bog Standard models, making it more comfortable for regular, high-footfall use.
- Genuinely odour-free — the built-in urine separator keeps liquid and solid waste apart, eliminating smell. The separated urine works as a liquid fertiliser.
- No water, no electricity required — fully off-grid and self-contained. Ideal for campsites, festival sites, forest schools, and remote rural locations.
- Handmade in Wales — built by our team, not outsourced. Every piece of timber, every joint, every fitting reflects over two decades of making these properly.

Delivery
Your compost toilet is delivered flat-pack on an oversized pallet by a national pallet courier, which is both cost-effective and included in the price.
Delivery is curbside — the driver will bring the pallet to the nearest point accessible by road, but won't cross fields or soft ground. Because the pallet is oversized, it can't be lowered on a tail lift and needs to be taken from the side of the lorry.
If you have access to a forklift or tractor, that's ideal — you can fork the pallet straight off and move it directly to your installation spot. If not, no problem at all: just have two people available on the day to help handball the panels down from the lorry. It's straightforward, and many of our customers manage without any machinery.
If you'd prefer a personal delivery and installation service, please get in touch to discuss.

Who It's For
The Gypsy Caravan Composting Toilet is the right choice when you want a building that works brilliantly and looks the part — for glamping sites, eco retreats, forest schools, campsites, festival grounds, and private rural properties. It costs a little more than a plain cabin toilet, and it's worth every penny. When your guests arrive and see this waiting for them, they'll understand why.

It's not only eco-friendly but blends beautifully with the natural woodland setting. The craftsmanship is impressive, with sturdy wood and a charming design that feels both rustic and welcoming. It was easy to set up, and our visitors have found it both practical and comfortable. It’s the perfect sustainable addition to our outdoor space, allowing us to offer a convenient restroom without impacting the environment. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a green, stylish solution!
Suzanne!
I took a deep breath and managed to assemble the toilet. You were right: the markings on the wood were a great guide.
I’ve just got to fit bits inside and it’s ready to go.
The toilet looks terrific but because of the weather the children haven’t been able to use it yet.
The only thing that hasn’t arrived is the hand sanitiser. Could you send one, please, and invoice me for the solar light? On reflection, I’d like to keep it.
I’ll send you some photos later this afternoon.
Regards,
Gavin
We’re thrilled with our new compost toilets for the glampsite! They’re beautifully crafted, fit seamlessly into the natural surroundings, and have been a hit with our guests. The quality is excellent, and they arrived on time, making setup easy. Thank you for all your assistance in getting them here right when we needed them. Highly recommended!
Hi Suzanne,
After the problems with the delivery (it was finally delivered to the wood on Thursday last week after further delays) we were able to assemble and set it all up yesterday as you can see from the attached photos. It is beautifully built and was easy to assemble once we realised that this one wasn’t identical to the one in the assembly instructions!
We are looking forward to arranging a grand opening shortly and plan to twin the toilet too.
Please pass on my thanks to all involved.
Best wishes
Mary Spencer
