The Two Stone Wishes Arch — a hand-carved gateway in oak, cedar, and larch, created for Studfold Adventure Trail in the Yorkshire Dales and now one of the most-photographed moments on the trail.
Passing beneath the Two Stone Wishes Arch feels like crossing a threshold between worlds. Built for Studfold Adventure Trail in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, this twin-gated archway rises like a woodland dream — its carved branches alive with stars, butterflies, and flowers that seem to flutter in the breeze. The brief was simple: create a moment. A place where children stop, look up, and feel that something extraordinary is about to begin. Every shape was drawn and cut by hand; every colour applied with care. Together they form a celebration of curiosity, wonder, and the particular magic of a trail that takes you deeper into the trees.
Built from oak, cedar, and larch — three timbers chosen for their grain, their outdoor durability, and the warmth they bring to carved work. Solid hand-built joinery throughout, with Epifanes matt varnish applied in three coats across the structural elements for lasting outdoor protection. The painted and carved details are sealed separately. This is a permanent outdoor installation designed to be a landmark, not a decoration.
