Some commissions ask everything of us — and we love them for it. This dragon archway and gate was built for a visitor attraction's Dragon Trail, inspired by the Mabinogi, Lord of the Rings, and the great mythic traditions of the British Isles. Every inch of it was made by hand in our workshop and installed on site.
The arch itself is built from weathered driftwood and natural timber, shaped and layered to form the sinuous body of a dragon curving overhead. Running along the spine are hand-cut wooden fins and claws, giving the whole structure a sense of coiled, living power. Flanking the entrance, hazel fence panels woven with crescent moons and carved stars continue the mythic atmosphere.
At the heart of it all are the gate posts — solid oak, carved with intricate interlaced Celtic knotwork running the full height of each post, and crowned with hand-carved dragon heads, scales, horns and all, staring down any visitor who dares pass through. The gates themselves are built from Douglas fir with twisted barley-twist spindles and arched rails, stained deep to complement the raw timber of the arch.
