This memorial bench was made for a much-loved mum, built around the things that meant the most to her. Carved into a single sweep of solid oak backrest, beneath the words For My Mum, you'll find a serene Buddha, three little birds taking flight, and a scattering of leaves and hearts — a quiet, personal portrait in wood.
Along the bottom rail we carved Love, Laughter, Loyalty, Strength and Forever in my heart. We finished the oak in a warm smoked tone to give the carving real depth, and built the frame chunky and solid, the way it was asked of us — a generous, grounded seat made to sit outside for a lifetime.
Every memorial bench we make starts with a person, not a product. We work from your words, symbols and stories, hand-carving each detail in our Welsh workshop so the finished bench feels like them and no one else. If you're thinking of a personalised memorial bench for someone you love, we'd be glad to help you design it.
Finish
This piece is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid oak slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey — completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, and with no maintenance needed. If you’d prefer to bring out the grain and warm, honeyed tones, choose the varnished option (+£50) and we’ll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish.
More about the two finishes
Outdoor furniture takes a real beating from sun and weather. Left natural, an unvarnished piece simply silvers over time and asks nothing of you. A varnished piece keeps its rich sheen for a couple of years; after that the varnish may begin to flake or patch, at which point you can simply re-coat it, or let it weather back to that natural silvery-grey. Either way, your oak is fine.
