available
A bench built from driftwood gathered along the shores and river banks of Mid Wales — storm-cast, sun-bleached and shaped by water long before it arrives in the workshop.
The appeal of driftwood is that the interesting work has already been done. Every piece carries the record of where it’s been: the silver surface weathered by salt and sun, the organic curves no straight-grained plank could replicate, the occasional twist or hollow that makes each bench a specific object rather than a category. Two pieces made from the same river reach will look nothing alike. The shaping and carving in the workshop bring the human element — smoothing the seat, defining the form, occasionally adding more deliberate detail — but the driftwood is always the lead.
At £500 these sit at the accessible end of our bench range — a way into the driftwood aesthetic that doesn’t require a full bespoke commission. Prices include VAT.

Your Version
If you have something specific in mind — a particular size, a more elaborate carving, or a set of matching pieces for a garden or outdoor space — we can work with you on a bespoke driftwood commission. Get in touch to talk it through.
Finish
This piece is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid timber slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey — completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, and with no maintenance needed. If you’d prefer to bring out the grain and warm, honeyed tones, choose the varnished option (+£50) and we’ll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish.
More about the two finishes
Outdoor furniture takes a real beating from sun and weather. Left natural, an unvarnished piece simply silvers over time and asks nothing of you. A varnished piece keeps its rich sheen for a couple of years; after that the varnish may begin to flake or patch, at which point you can simply re-coat it, or let it weather back to that natural silvery-grey. Either way, your timber is fine.
