A bed built from seven different species of wood — driftwood, ash, yew, oak, beech, cedar, and pine — all locally and sustainably sourced, brought together in a headboard that reads like a sunrise.
The name is literal: the headboard is designed around the sun, with the natural colours and grain of different woods creating the shift from deep to light that you’d see in a dawn sky. Driftwood forms the structural posts — weathered and shaped by water rather than a saw. Ash, yew, oak, beech, cedar, and pine are chosen for their individual tones and textures: some pale, some amber, some almost honey-gold. Together they radiate. The contrast between the different species is the design — not stained or painted, but the wood doing what wood does when you select it carefully and put it next to something different. No two versions of this bed look identical because no two pieces of timber are identical.
The frame is built using solid hand-built joinery throughout, with a natural oil finish that nourishes all seven species and brings out the contrast between them.
