Silhouetted against a rising moon, a lone hare sits in stillness beneath two trees — watching, listening, utterly at peace. The Hare in the Woodland Bed carries that carved scene across the full width of the headboard, handmade in solid wood in the Free Range workshop in Wales and shaped to follow the natural lines of the grain.
Hares have a particular resonance in Welsh and British folklore — solitary, intuitive, associated with the moon and the liminal hours between night and day. The carving here catches that quality precisely: the hare is not performing, just present, in the way that woodland creatures are. The frame is built with chunky, grounded proportions — organic curves and natural timber edges that give the whole piece an earthy, rooted quality. The grain of the locally sourced timber is allowed to do its own work, the carving emerging from the surface rather than imposed upon it.

Your Version
The hare is a favourite motif at the workshop — but this bed works equally well with a running fox, a roosting owl, a stag outlined against the moon, or any other animal that means something to you. The woodland frame is also open to additional carvings — celestial details, runes, an inscription around the base, a name. Custom sizes always possible. Typical lead time is 4–5 weeks.
