A bed built on the same structural principle as the great Medieval cruck frame barns — an A-frame that rises from the floor and arches overhead, solid at every joint, and visually unlike anything you’ve seen in a bedroom before.
The cruck frame is one of the oldest building forms in Britain. Pairs of curved or angled timbers lean toward each other at the apex, creating a structure of considerable strength without complex joinery or heavy machinery — just well-selected wood and understanding of how forces move through a frame. This bed takes that principle and brings it into the bedroom. The posts are driftwood and ash from the rivers and coastlines of Wales; the structural timbers are pine, locally sourced. The combination gives the bed the organic character of the older material and the straight-grained strength of the newer. The driftwood posts in particular give this bed its personality — no two are alike, and none are what you’d find in any flat-pack or showroom.
The frame is built using solid hand-built joinery throughout, with bed bolts at the rail connections for long-term strength and easy disassembly.
