Mrs. Best loved walking in the mountains, loved her two dogs, loved a glass of wine at the end of a good day in the hills — and she loved her students. The backrest carving holds all of it: hiking boots, a wine glass, two faithful companions, a wide mountain landscape, and a Roald Dahl quote that says everything that needed saying.
The bench now stands somewhere she is remembered and returned to. That’s what a bench like this is for — not just a place to sit, but a place to go back to, season after season, and feel the presence of someone who mattered. Every element was chosen by the people who loved her, and every element was carved by hand in our workshop in Mid Wales.
