Six timbers, one chest — oak, ash, walnut, beech, chestnut, and sycamore arranged in interlocking drawer fronts that flow together like a landscape of grain. The Rustic Chest of Drawers is a piece of storage furniture that draws the eye across its surface, the different woods shifting from light to dark, tight-grained to open, pale to rich amber.
The flowing interlocking drawer fronts are the signature of this piece: the drawers are shaped so their tops and bottoms follow the contours of the drawers above and below, the whole front becoming a single composition rather than a stack of separate elements. Each timber has been positioned so the transition from one species to the next has a visual logic — the piece works as a whole, not just as a collection of drawers. The frame is hand-built with solid joinery throughout and finished in natural oil.
