A hand-carved oak buddy bench for school playgrounds — with “Buddy Bench” carved into the backrest, leaves painted along the seat rail, and your school’s chosen motto or message at the centre.
The buddy bench system works because it’s visible. Any child who needs company sits here; other children know to come and ask. It works not because it’s a rule but because it’s a place — and places need to feel right. The painted leaves, the carved lettering, the natural grain and colour of the oak make this bench feel like it belongs to the school rather than arriving from a warehouse. Every version is made with the school’s own details, and the bench becomes the kind of thing that gets photographed for the school newsletter and celebrated in assembly in a way a flat board on metal posts never quite manages.
Schools can order on a purchase order. Prices include VAT.

Finish
This piece is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid oak slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey — completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, and with no maintenance needed. If you’d prefer to bring out the grain and warm, honeyed tones, choose the varnished option (+£50) and we’ll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish.
More about the two finishes
Outdoor furniture takes a real beating from sun and weather. Left natural, an unvarnished piece simply silvers over time and asks nothing of you. A varnished piece keeps its rich sheen for a couple of years; after that the varnish may begin to flake or patch, at which point you can simply re-coat it, or let it weather back to that natural silvery-grey. Either way, your oak is fine.
