A dining table with a surface that never needs a tablecloth. Welsh slate, reclaimed and polished smooth, sits on solid oak legs in a table that moves as easily from a farmhouse kitchen to a garden terrace as it does from spring to winter. The slate is naturally cool, naturally hardwearing, and naturally beautiful — oiled with a linseed mix that leaves it easy to wipe clean and resistant to the kind of marks that haunt wooden table tops.
The oak legs and frame are joined using traditional mortise and tenon joinery with wooden dowels: no glue, no screws, just tight-fitting joints that hold as well in damp outdoor conditions as they do inside. The wood is finished with eco-friendly organic Danish oil. Together, the two materials — slate and oak — age beautifully without maintenance, which is part of why people who buy one tend to keep it for life.
