The slate in this table has a past life. It was a pool table top — the kind of surface that demands perfection, cut from a single slab of Welsh slate and polished flat. When pool tables get retired, the slate is one of the few things worth saving, and we save it. Oiled with a traditional linseed oil mix, it becomes a dining table surface that is naturally stain-resistant, easy to clean, cool to the touch, and genuinely beautiful.
The legs and frame are solid Welsh oak, cut and dried nearby and joined using traditional mortise and tenon joinery with wooden dowels. The construction is old in the best sense — no metal fixings, no shortcuts, just tight-fitting oak joints that become stronger as the wood seasons. The table works equally well in a kitchen or dining room as it does on a covered terrace or patio, and it lasts for decades in both settings.
Available individually or as a set with one or two matching slate-and-oak benches. Every table is made individually to order. A parasol hole can be added to the top on request.
