A driftwood bed with a headboard and footboard built from a deliberate mix of reclaimed and sustainable woods — different species laid side by side, creating a striped effect that’s genuinely different in every version we make.
The “stripes” aren’t painted on or stained in. They’re the natural colour variation between species — ash (pale and fine-grained), yew (amber to deep brown), oak (golden), driftwood (bleached and weathered), pine (warm cream). The planks and slats are selected, cut, and laid in a sequence that creates rhythm and movement across the headboard. The posts are driftwood — found wood from the coastlines and rivers of West Wales, shaped by water into forms that no planer could replicate. The contrast between the structured horizontal bands of the headboard and the organic uprights of the posts is part of what makes this bed work as an object.
The frame is built using solid hand-built joinery throughout. The finish is a natural oil that nourishes every species and deepens the colour contrast between them.
