A handmade wooden rocking chair in reclaimed Welsh timber — oak, beech, hazel, or birch — built for the kind of unhurried sitting that most modern furniture no longer allows.
There are chairs you sit in to get something done, and chairs you sit in to stop doing things. This is the second kind. Built from locally sourced Welsh timber — each piece selected for its grain, character, and the story it carries — and constructed so that the rocking motion is even, effortless, and quiet. The back is formed from natural branch material, the seat shaped to support the lower back properly, and the rockers calibrated so that the chair doesn't tip forward or slide backward on a flat floor. It is made to be sat in for a long time.
Each chair is made from reclaimed or sustainably sourced Welsh wood: oak, beech, hazel, and birch are all used depending on what the workshop has available and what the brief calls for. The construction uses solid hand-built joinery throughout.

Your Version
Rocking chairs can be made taller or wider, with a cushioned seat, a higher back, or arm rests. If you have a particular timber in mind — or one you'd like to avoid — let us know. Some clients have these made as heirlooms: a piece to mark a birth, a retirement, a home coming. We'll build it to last that long.
Typical lead time is 4–5 weeks. Prices include VAT.

Finish
This piece is supplied unvarnished as standard. Left natural, solid timber slowly weathers to a soft, silvery-grey — completely normal for outdoor timber, a graceful way for a piece to age, and with no maintenance needed. If you’d prefer to bring out the grain and warm, honeyed tones, choose the varnished option (+£50) and we’ll hand-apply three coats of Epifanes, a premium marine yacht varnish.
More about the two finishes
Outdoor furniture takes a real beating from sun and weather. Left natural, an unvarnished piece simply silvers over time and asks nothing of you. A varnished piece keeps its rich sheen for a couple of years; after that the varnish may begin to flake or patch, at which point you can simply re-coat it, or let it weather back to that natural silvery-grey. Either way, your timber is fine.
