There's a Welsh saying that's been around for centuries: Heb Amaeth, Heb Faeth. Without farming, without food. It's as true now as it ever was — and we reckon it deserves a better home than a bit of cracked PVC flapping in the wind.
That's exactly what prompted this one. The farmers we rent our land from had an old PVC sign at the entrance to their farm that had seen better days — ripped and tatty after one too many Welsh winters. They asked if we could make them something to replace it, and honestly, it was one of those jobs we were delighted to take on.
We cut three solid boards of Douglas fir, each 300mm wide, and joined them to create a sign that stands roughly 900mm tall by 600mm wide. The text — No Farmers No Food in English, Heb Amaeth Heb Faeth in Welsh — was carved directly into the wood, along with a bold hand-carved tractor sitting right in the middle of it all. The whole thing was painted in yellow and black: bright enough to stop a car at the gate, solid enough to last a decade of weather.
Douglas fir is a wood we love for outdoor work. It's strong, takes paint beautifully, and weathers with character rather than falling apart. This sign will still be standing at the farm entrance long after that old PVC one would have been in a skip.
We made this one as a favour, but if you'd like a sign of your own — a farm name, a house name, a favourite quote, a rallying cry for something you believe in — take a look at the listing and get in touch. Any wording, any size, any design. Bespoke is what we do.
