We recently had the joy of creating a set of handcrafted storytelling chairs for a collection of schools, each one designed to spark imagination and invite young minds into the world of stories, nature, and shared wonder.

From a proud barn owl and curious badger to the words “Once Upon A Time” carved in a heart of oak, each chair tells its own tale. There are hedgehogs, rabbits, squirrels and lambs — creatures children might spot beyond the school fence — now watching over story time. Some designs even include the school name and motto, grounding the magic in a place children know and love.

Built from solid oak, these chairs aren’t just furniture. They’re thrones for young storytellers, seats for quiet moments, and centrepieces for outdoor classrooms. Durable enough for the playground, special enough to be remembered.
